From Michael Jordan to Madonna, the stars who went through the Baby'O in Acapulco

Eduardo Cesarman, founding partner of Baby'O remembers that it was during Holy Week when he came up with the idea of creating a nightclub in Acapulco. “When we opened it wasn't a hit”, he acknowledges, because there were more than 30 nightclubs in the port, but it was the presence of artists that gave it a boost.

The concerts of artists like Tavares and Gloria Gaynor gave Baby a light that little by little made it the fashionable place in the port of Guerrero.

"It was an opportunity because at the end of the day, at that time it was difficult to get an alcohol license and more in Acapulco, getting something was quite difficult," Cesarman said in an interview for Jewish Link in 2018.

The name is due to the jazz song by Dean Martin that Cesarman listened to with his partner Rafael Villafañe while they were traveling by car. The idea, which they already had in mind, was for the name to have an O so that the shape of this letter would be the entrance door to the club, which was finally designed by a friend as a sand cave.

The capacity was for 700 people and Cesarman accepts that the project could have worked with eight lights, but after a while its popularity was so great that they had to reinforce the facilities, remove the false ceiling and replace it with stone, put lights with technology and screens .

"A Disc-jockey who plays at Baby'O has to be a very good Disc-jockey because he plays from 12 at night to 8 in the morning, without repeating music and playing everything, fresh music," said the businessman .

The place, which was set on fire yesterday and completely destroyed, was home to hundreds of international artists, including Luis Miguel, who attended since he was a child hand in hand with his father and later enjoyed many parties there in his time. of gold.

By December 2021 this mythical place would be 45 years old, keeping memories of traditions enjoyed by both locals and foreigners. Sleepovers, for example, which were held on certain occasions were the favorite event of artists such as Ringo Starr, of The Beatles.

In the interview for Jewish Link, Cesarman says that Bush, Michael Jordan, Bono from U2, Madonna... visited the place.

The disco survived even despite the years and the changes. It never closed its doors even though many others did like Studio 54, which was the similar nightlife space in New York and was closed in 1980.

“This is still a nightclub, there is a dance floor, the music is fresh, people dance, have fun, we take great care of the quality of service, alcohol, music, security, as everywhere there can be incidents, but they are minor incidents,” said its founder, who unfortunately reported a total loss on the night of September 29.

The Muppets (champagne with tequila), the Baby Mango, the 'Barra de la muerte' (with pure shots), were some of the cocktails that paraded through the spaces of that nightclub that housed the funniest memories of many people and is that its magic probably lay in the fact that it was "a familiar place", according to its founder, a meeting point between unknown, known and famous. The 'Jet set' of Acapulco.
