The Cofece imposes a millionaire fine to the MX League by 'Knight Pact' and salary stop in the Women's League
The Federal Economic Competition Commission (Cofece) imposed fines for a total of 177.6 million pesos to 17 teams of the MX League, to the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) and 8 natural persons for their responsibility in the realization of absolute monopolistic practices (Cabeller Pact) and for putting a salary stop to the players thatThey participate in the Women's League during their creation.
"The clubs colluded to avoid or inhibit competition in the football signing market through two behaviors: 1) Impose maximum stops on players' salaries, which further deepened the salary gap between women and soccer men; and 2) Segment the players market by establishing a mechanism that prevented them from negotiating and hiring freely with new teams, "says the Cofece statement.
The sanctioned teams are America, Pachuca, Cruz Azul, Mazatlan (monarchs), Chivas, Santos, Tigres, Toluca, Pumas, Monterrey, Necaxa, Tijuana, Atlas, León, Querétaro, Puebla and Atlante, which now belongs to the Expansion League.
Salary stop in the MX Women's League
Regarding this issue, Cofece pointed out that the practices that limited free economic competition in women's football in 2016 until 2019 were the following:
Knight pact
When to the Caballeros Pact that saw its end from the 2019 Opening Tournasame and limited its negotiation capacity to obtain better salaries.
"The 17 sanctioned clubs, with the FMF contribute, agreedContract, but at maturity they maintained the right to retain them.If a different club was interested in hiring that player, he must necessarily obtain the authorization of the first club that had it in his "inventory" and, often, pay a consideration for the change. These agreements materialized during the Transfers and Hiring Regime for Soccer Players (known as Draft), "says the text.
The MX and FMF League will comply with the sanction
Meanwhile, the MX League and the FMF issued a statement to point out that they have been notified by the Cofece on this economic sanction, which will abide by and not challenge, coupled with the fact that they will continue working to eradicate these practices.
"FMF and clubs endorse their commitment to the eradication of these and any other practice that could be contrary to the regulatory framework, as well as strengthen their review mechanisms to be able to prevent any possible breach and collaborate with the authorities".
