They raided an Once gallery for the sale of “trout” merchandise: there were incidents between street vendors and police

Around 1 a.m. this Tuesday, the surroundings of the Once station began to fill with police. The troops arrived at the place to raid the three-story "La Unión" gallery, where they seized a large quantity of "trout" merchandise: they filled seven vehicles with what was seized. The manager of the place is arrested.

Around 10:30 in the morning there were incidents and clashes between the police and the vendors who approached the site of the raid and demanded the recovery of their merchandise. "Enough of stealing everything," they asked the officers.

According to A24, the police fired tear gas when the street vendors tried to enter the place. The adjoining businesses lowered the blinds of their premises. "We are in the middle of the Holidays and we cannot work," declared a man on that channel.

Due to the operation, they had to fence Sarmiento Street at 2800, between Pueyrredón and Boulogne Sur Mer, for several hours. Agents from the Government Control Agency and members of the Police and Infantry worked at the scene.

As they specified, at first they raided 43 premises of the first two levels. They then proceeded to check the third, where they found technological equipment. The manager of the gallery is under arrest and the origin of the seized items is being investigated.

"Thousands of products were seized in violation of the Trademark Law, in addition to bags, cars and Styrofoam for the display of lenses," they detailed.

In the raid on the premises, they seized 596 packages with sneakers, t-shirts, sweatshirts, pants, caps, belts, and electronic devices such as headphones, chargers, joysticks from brands such as Adidas, Nike, Puma, Levis, Tommy, Sony, Samsung.

Such was the dimension of everything seized that 20 trucks were needed to remove the merchandise to the police warehouses to carry out the opening, counting and classification. In total, 29,600 items were seized, for an approximate value of 87,000 pesos on the irregular market.

On the third floor they found "electronic material that does not have supporting documentation, for which Customs ordered its confiscation and seizure." According to the investigators, apocryphal electronic products would be assembled in that place.

Allanaron una galería de Once por venta de mercadería “trucha”: hubo incidentes entre manteros y policías

The "La Unión" gallery is a shopping mall where "trout" brands are sold. The operation was carried out for the infringement of trademark law.

It is presumed that what is kidnapped is what is later sold by the vendors in the Once neighborhood and that a few days before Christmas the demand increases considerably.

"The investigators were able to establish that these premises are used to store merchandise that is sold on public roads in the Once neighborhood," they reported.

The prosecutor in charge of the operation is Celsa Ramírez and the intervening court is the Penal, Contraventions and Misdemeanors 1, in charge of Dr. Rodolfo Ariza Clerici.

It is an investigation of the Special Operations and Criminal Investigations Divisions, of the Contraventions and Misdemeanors Department of the City Police

Everything kidnapped was transferred to community police station 8 to carry out a survey: "The seized material was secured in identified and sealed packages before being transferred in 7 vehicles to a warehouse for counting and marking."

what sellers say

Several of the vendors, mostly of Senegalese origin, gathered in the vicinity of the gallery, whose street was barricaded by police officers, to complain about the fate of the seized merchandise.

In dialogue with Télam, some of them stated that this type of operation always occurs on this date, and also during the rest of the year.

Mohamed, who arrived in Argentina seven years ago, said: "Since I've been selling in the Once area there have been more than forty raids. This raid is illegal because there is no record."

"Now we can't enter the gallery where we keep the merchandise we bought," he added, and completed: "They take the merchandise away from us and we have to buy it again because we don't lower our arms, we keep fighting."

"If they gave us documents we would have the possibility of renting a place and not selling on the street, we could pay taxes like the workers of the premises. Many of us have arrived in this country more than ten years ago, they got married, they have Argentine children, They have to rent, feed their children. How do they do it then? It's the question I ask the judge, the prosecutor, "he concluded.

Daniel, another street vendor of Senegalese origin, who arrived in Argentina 10 years ago, stated "if this raid has to do with fake or illegal brands, we know that this merchandise is also sold in the premises, in La Salada itself. Why don't they take all these cops over there?"
